The Mayor’s Cup 75th birth anniversary tournament resumed Friday night after a break for the Kashif and Shanghai football tournament with two exciting matches at the Tucville Playfield.
In results for the two matches Pele edged Uprising 2-1 while Riddim Squad defeated Conquerors on penalty kicks.
Pele owed the win to goals from national players Gregory `Jackie Chan’ Richardson and Marvin Joseph while Daniel Favourite netted Uprising’s lone goal.
In the other encounter the two teams played to a goalless draw after regulation and extra time before Riddim Squad found their rhythm in the penalty shoot-out.
The competition will continue at the same venue tonight with two quarter-final matches.
In the first game, Kashif and Shanghai champions Western Tigers will oppose Crane while the Guyana Defence Force will tackle Alpha United in the key fixture.
There will also be several exhibition games with Middle Road opposing Majestics; East Ruimveldt versus Mahaica; Upper Level versus Cork Tree; West Side versus Beterverwagting; Kitty versus Golden Grove; Kingston versus Victoria; Campbellville versus Buxton; and Tiger Bay versus Houston.
Tonight’s action begins at 6pm.
