The wife, Roshelle Allen, 30, of 396 Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to two counts of unlawfully assaulting Odessa Williams on February 4 at Church Street so as to cause actual bodily harm.
The husband, Dave Allen, 42, of 14 Minrod Street, Two Friends Village, ECD was charged with unlawfully assaulting Roshelle Allen on February 4 at Camp Street.
He pleaded not guilty telling the court that he did not slap his wife as the police charged. He said he merely put his hand across her to restrain her from hitting Williams.
Police Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Denise Griffith said the facts indicated that Williams and Dave Allen had an intimate relationship which resulted in his wife moving out.
Dave Allen told the magistrate that he and his wife had separated last October.
Griffith told the court that Dave Allen, who is a minibus driver, picked up his wife and as she was going home, she was told that he would be picking up Williams as well. She said the wife then requested that she be put off the bus.
Griffith said Dave Allen’s statement to the police indicated that Williams’s presence in the bus was what triggered his wife’s assault. And when his wife threw away Williams’s phone, Griffith added, Dave Allen slapped her.
Williams told the court that she was waiting to be picked up by Dave Allen and when the bus stopped, his wife exited the front seat, held the door open and “she tell me to come in the f-ing bus.”
Williams said she had two bags in her hand and Roshelle Allen grabbed the bags and threw them in the corner of the road, breaking a bottle that was in one of the bags.
She said Dave Allen tried to intervene by holding his wife down and she was punched in the face. Eventually she got into the bus and when it stopped on Camp Street, Roshelle Allen again tried to attack her, Williams said.
Williams said Roshelle Allen took her handbag and threw it across the road and her cell phone fell out. Williams said Dave Allen told his wife to pick up the phone but she said no and during the commotion, the wife fell down.
Along with bail the trio was ordered to report to a probation officer. Their next court appearance is March 3 in Court 10.
