The Guyana Sevashram Sangha will be observing Maha Shiva Raatri today for 24 hours for the worship of Lord Shiva.
According to a press release thousands of pilgrims both locally and internationally will assemble at ashrams to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.
The function will be hosted at the Cove and John Ashram, East Coast Demerara. It said President Bharrat Jagdeo and other dignitaries are expected to attend the Havan which starts at 10 am.
Today’s observances were scheduled to start at 5.30 am with a procession with the Holi Tulsi Plant. Incessant chanting of Om Namah Shivaya then begins at 8.30 am.
The observances conclude with aartie tomorrow at 6 am.
The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be holding a puja and satsangh at the Dharmic Rama Krishna Mandir, Barr Street, Kitty at 6 pm today and at the Shri Krishna Mandir, Campbellville at 7.30 pm. Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud will conduct both satsanghs.
