Dr Luncheon disclosed yesterday that Cabinet had no objection to an award of $424.2 million for the construction of a technical and vocational training centre in Mahaicony, in Region 5. Cabinet also gave its go ahead for construction of another technical institute in Ruimzigt in Region 3, which will cost $427.5 million. Both these projects full under the purview of the Education sector, Dr Luncheon said.
In the Health sector, no objection was given to a project for the supply of laboratory equipment for the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) which will cost $59.4 million. And award for $100 million for the procurement of oxygen for operations at the GPHC was also given Cabinet’s “no objection.”
Luncheon disclosed that several awards were given Cabinet’s no objection in the Housing Sector, and this will see the construction of drains and road structures, installation of pure water distribution networks. These awards included that of $334.5 million for a water distribution network to be established in Tuschen, on the East Bank of Essequibo in Region 3, and $29.5 million for another water distribution network in Lusignan on the East Coast of Demerara in Region 4. Sums of $189.4 million and $233.5 million were given the go ahead by Cabinet to facilitate pure water distribution networks in Section D Sophia in Georgetown and in Ordinance in Fort and in Canje, Region 6 respectively.
Meanwhile Cabinet also gave its no objection to $72.1 million for construction and rehabilitation of the Nine Mile road between Lethem and Aishalton in Region 9.
