Marcia Seegobin, 27, of Lot 13 Second Street, Rose Hall Town, Berbice pleaded not guilty to the summary charges, which stated that between October 1, 2008 and January 29, 2009, being a clerk or servant of DDL, she stole, $6,712, 470, the property of her employer.
Seegobin first appeared in court in December when police instituted indictable charges but the case was adjourned, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution. On that occasion, surety was allowed in the sum of $4.5M
At yesterday’s hearing, Police Prosecutor Corporal Roberto Figuiera told the court that he was advised that the charges should be read summarily to the defendant, who later denied the allegation on advice of her counsel, attorney Mursuline Bacchus.
Police said Seegobin, who was attached to DDL’s Chapel Street office in New Amsterdam, was responsible for collecting money from the various departments and depositing it daily at a bank. The woman allegedly failed to make the deposit and the theft was subsequently unearthed after her employers discovered that the deposit slips were missing.
Seegobin’s attorney requested a lengthy adjournment so that the prosecution can supply statements for each charge. She was ordered to return to court on March 29.
