The four men all pleaded not guilty to the joint charge of break and enter and larceny when they appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. They denied that on February 10, the broke and entered the storage bond of Winston Thomas and stole a generator, three compactors, a concrete power saw, an electric power drill, $2.5M cash and two toilet bowls, with a total value of over $5.8M.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on the day in question, between 8:30am and 11:00pm, the quartet broke into Thomas’ bond and stole the items mentioned in the charge. The prosecutor noted that the police found the quartet with one of the toilet bowls in a push-cart later that day.
However, they men said that the police were conducting a raid in the area of the bond when they saw them and placed them to lie on the road. He said that the police later placed them in the police vehicle and took them to the station where they were charged. They said they did not know anything about the break-in.
The quartet is scheduled to make another court appearance on February 24.
