This will be the first time that the four-time Caribbean champs will be playing at a tournament of such magnitude being group with the world’s elite teams in World number-one New Zealand and France and Australia.
Sixteen of the world’s finest rugby nations are down to compete in the competition and Guyana will be playing the tournament’s second match against the Aussies at 12:22pm local time.
However, captain Claudius Butts and his army will have their toughest assignment yet when they face the All Blacks in their second match this afternoon before squaring off with the French later this evening.
Butts, who is also the West Indies rugby captain, will have the likes of England-based players Kevin McKenzie, Rupert Giles and Dominic Lespierre in his side.
The rest of the winger’s teammates are Ryan Gonsalves, Peabo Hamilton, Dwayne Schroeder, Richard Staglon, Theodore Henry, Ronald Mayers, Walter George and Albert La Rose.
