All four remaining sides are still in with an equal chance of securing the two available slots in the ICC World Twenty20 2010 to be staged in the West Indies from April 30 to May 16.
Batting first at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Afghanistan scored 128 for nine off 20 overs.
Raees Ahmadzai (28) top scored and Mark Jonkman (2-23) led the bowling for the Netherlands, who replied with 132 for six off 18.5 overs, led by Alexei Kervezee (39).
Mohammad Nabi (3-23) was Afghanistan’s chief wicket-taker.
Ireland, coached by ex-West Indies batsman Phil Simmons, beat the UAE by 22 runs at Dubai International Cricket Stadium after they scored 152 for seven off their 20 overs and limited UAE to 130 all out in 19.1 overs.
Niall O’Brien (46) was the chief scorer for Ireland before Alex Cusack (3-19), Andre Botha (2-21) and Peter Connell (2-30) combined to limit the UAE’s response although Saqib Ali resisted with a fighting 63.
