-Coach Roberts rewarded for decades of contribution to cycling
The Flying Ace Cycle Club of Berbice recently held its annual awards ceremony at the New Amsterdam Town Hall where cyclists, the club secretary and two media operatives received awards.
At the ceremony the firm of A. Ally and Sons also took the opportunity to present coach of the Flying Ace Cycle Club, Randolph Roberts with a cash award of $25, 000 for his work with the youths of Regions Five and Six in the development of cycling.
According to the company’s managing director, Faizal Ally, he has known Roberts for a number of years and it was his opinion that Roberts has done an excellent job in the region over that period.
‘Rannie’ as Roberts is popularly known throughout the region, also came in for lavish praise from some members of the audience who questioned why it was that this long-standing servant of cycling, was not being more gainfully employed by the government.
Roberts has produced a number of top cyclists over the years some of whom have gone on to represent Guyana.
Among the cyclists nurtured by Roberts are Neil Reece, Marika Dick, Travis Cipriani, Judah Klass, Wazim Gafoor, Nashane Jaundoo, Romona Persaud and Peter Millington.
In his remarks, Roberts, who has been giving voluntary service for the past 23 years, said he would like to express his sincere gratitude to Faizal Ally, for recognizing his work and his dedication towards cycling in Guyana and urged other sponsors to come forward to support cycling in Berbice.
