Seon Small and Joseph Peters both pleaded not guilty to unlawfully wounding Seon Persaud on Tuesday at Leopold and Cross streets. Small, 18, of D’urban Street, Werk-en-Rust, made an appearance in court on Tuesday and he was remanded by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson. She told him that he would have to spend some time in the Camp Street prison since it was his third consecutive appearance in court.
Peters, called Akeem, 21, of 52 Victoria Road, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara told the court that he had asked Persaud for his belongings. When asked what his belongings were, Peters told the court that it was a skirt that Persaud was wearing at the time. Peters went on to say that he collected his belongings and left Persaud. The magistrate inquired how he collected his belongings and he told her that he unzipped the skirt Persaud was wearing and took it off. Peters went on to say that he never assaulted Persaud, but when he was leaving after taking his belongings, Persaud started to verbally abuse him and “behaving bad.”
Meanwhile, Chris Miller, 26, of 17 Prince William Street, Plaisance was charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Persaud on the same day and at the same place. He too pleaded not guilty. Miller who is also called Junior pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, who also represented Small, told the court that Miller should be put on bail since “they just pull him in” the matter. She said that when she called the Brickdam Police Station she was told by police that no investigation was done in relation to the wounding charge.
Meanwhile, Persaud, when given his chance to speak, told the court that he was standing by his bridge. He said that he was going to wash his clothes when Peters lashed him in his head with a piece of wood. He said that while he was on the ground, Small came and cuffed him too and Miller “juk me up.” He said that the men were upset with him for not siding with them when they were evicted by the landlord.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Stephen Telford asked that bail be refused for Small but he did not object to the bail applications for the other two defendants. The magistrate granted the prosecutor’s request. Both Peters and Miller were each placed on $25,000 bail and Small was remanded. The trio is to return to Court 10 on February 15.
