Hours after he was stabbed in the abdomen during a confrontation with three men Gregory `Micey’ Stuart died at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Stuart, 24, of Lot 571 South Sophia was reportedly involved in an argument over a missing cellular phone with a man shortly before he was stabbed. The incident occurred some time before 9 pm Saturday at the Stabroek Market area where the South minibus park is located.
Colette McKenzie told Stabroek News yesterday that she was with Stuart and her younger son when the man, who she described as her dead son’s friend, started speaking about his missing cellular phone and made gestures in Stuart’s direction.
“This man started saying how he lost his cell phone,” Mc Kenzie said, “and he moving his hand and pointing in my son [Stuart’s] direction…so what he trying to say? Not that Gregory take the cell phone?”
After the argument the group drifted apart and a few minutes later, Mc Kenzie recalled, her younger son came running towards her shirtless screaming out that “they” had just stabbed Stuart. Mc Kenzie said she immediately got a taxi and rushed him to the hospital where he was treated and then admitted.
She was informed of her son’s death early yesterday morning.
Two other men, she said, were with the man who allegedly stabbed Stuart. Police are still searching for them.
“After Stuart get stab,” Mc Kenzie said, “these three guys just disappear.”
