Two women were on Thursday charged with assaulting each other.
Uelliee Ross was placed on $20,000 bail for unlawfully wounding Danita Junior while Junior was placed on $10,000 bail for unlawfully assaulting Ross. Ross, 39, of 252 Independence Boulevard pleaded guilty with explanation to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Junior on December 1, 2009 while Junior pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting Ross on January 16 at New Road.
In his bail application for Junior, attorney Zafar Mohamed told the court that his client had no antecedent. He said that in December, the defendant saw his client chatting with a friend and walked up to her with a cutlass and chopped her. Six weeks later, Mohamed said, his client was charged with assault. Mohamed told the court that his client was defending herself.
Meanwhile, Ross told the court that she was at home speaking to a friend when Junior approached them and taunted her by waving money in her face and calling her “black face.” She said that as she walked away, Junior began throwing bottles at her and she in turn threw them back. Ross told the court that she did not wound Junior in any way.
The pair is to return to Court 10 on February 24.
