School of the Nations’ Berbice campus has raised over $62,000 for relief efforts for Haiti.
In a press release the school said soon after the January 12 earthquake it formed a committee to spearhead aid for the ravaged island-nation. It said a fund box was placed in the office and staff and children contributed $8,326 to this effort.
The school said a concert titled ‘Haiti with love’ was planned and executed through various means and methods of contributions. A sound system was donated, pastries were sent for sale, taxi services provided and other offers of time, energy and materials were willingly given. The concert had over 24 items on its agenda including some from youth enrolled at its Georgetown school. About 200 persons attended the concert. The school said it netted $54,180 from the concert tickets, the canteen and contributions at the concert bringing the total to $62,506.
“We are deeply grateful for all the many hours, creative energies, dance practices lovingly offered…including late nights at the School by all our youth and junior youth,” the school said.
