Long waits at Republic Bank, Linden

Dear Editor,

Going to do business at the Republic Bank, Linden branch would require a mountain of patience, except by chance you are lucky to be there on one of those odd days where it appears as if there is a virtual conspiracy on the part of customers to stay away.

Two or three hours sitting/standing before a transaction can be completed – if not more – is no exaggeration; this has become the norm, the standing order. Judging from what one sees regularly, this branch it appears, lacks the capacity to deal with its large clientele expeditiously. Many customers quietly endure this painful time-consuming wait in various ways, although they are annoyed and disgusted. The constant deep sighing and fidgeting, intermittent ‘suck teeth,’ grumbling and all forms of unpleasant facial expressions and exchange of emotions lay bare the stressful ordeal that is often encountered whenever some form of transaction must be done at this branch.

Upon entering and seeing a crowd, many would turn away, unless it’s a matter of urgency, leaving one with is no alternative than to resign oneself to a prolonged torturous wait.

Republic Bank is considered the main, and in the view of many, the lone bank in the Linden community. The New Building Society, which also serves the community though on a smaller scale, equally lacks the capacity to attend to large numbers of persons in a satisfactory timely manner. If when you get there ten persons are ahead of you, trust me, you are toasted; the hourglass could very well empty two, three times before you are attended to.

Whatever the reason for this tardiness, Republic Bank, Linden branch, must quickly move to rectify the situation when crowded. If one customer stands at the counter or sits in an office being attended to for over an hour or two, people will not applaud the system, neither will they feel any better because of smiles from the staff.

People are bitterly complaining, and though not from the mountain top, the officer in charge should not take things for granted.

Yours faithfully,
Frank Fyffe
