With a heavy schedule this year local rifle shooters will meet this evening to elect officers to chart the course of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) for the next year.
Sources close to the association have indicated that most of the current members of the executive are likely to be returned to office.
Commodore Gary Best, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, will retain his post as president as stipulated by the rules of the GNRA.
The two vice presidents Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Slowe and Attorney-at-Law Richard ‘Dickie’ Fields S.C. are also expected to retain their posts.
Long serving secretary Ryan Sampson is also expected to return as well as treasurer Lt. Col. Terry Stuart.
Other officers likely to retain their posts are assistant secretary/treasurer Lance Khan, full-bore captain Mahendra Persaud and vice captain Dylan Fields, small-bore captain Dale Hing and vice captain Joe Chin.
The annual general meeting of the GNRA will take place this evening at the Bank of Guyana
Roof Garden starting at 18:30 hours.
Guyana rifle shooters will be looking for an unprecedented fourth West Indies full-bore title in a row when the tournament is staged later this year in Barbados.
Rifle shooters are expected to be among Guyana’s delegation to the Commonwealth Games billed for India in October.
The National Senior and Junior Rifle Shooting championships which were rescheduled from late last year will be on the cards for the shooters in preparation for the regional tournament.
Paintball shooting, a big attraction for handgun shooters, will once again be high on the programme for the small-bore section as well as participation in Caribbean competitions and local target shooting.
