PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – A Twenty20 match in the upcoming WICB series is expected to herald the opening of the Brian Lara Stadium.
CMC Sports understands that the inaugural series, which replaces the Stanford T20 tournament, will bowl off July 15 with Trinidad & Tobago expected to be hosts.
The Brian Lara Stadium, located in Tarouba in south Trinidad, was completed recently after being outfitted with seating and floodlights.
It had been originally scheduled to host official warm-up matches during the Cricket World Cup here three years ago but had to be cancelled as a venue after construction lagged behind.
The T&T Cricket Board has bid to host the regional T20 series and it is understood that they are very close to getting their wish from the WICB.
If T&T are confirmed as the sole hosts, matches will be split between the Brian Lara Stadium and the famous Queen’s Park Oval.
Last week it was reported that the WICB would host a massive Twenty20 tournament to replace the now defunct Stanford initiative.
