Bodybuilder Fiona Harris was elected president of the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) when that body held its annual general meeting recently.
Harris replaced Frank Tucker who stood at the helm for the past two years.
Harris received 22 votes while Mark Sinclair of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) had five and Clifton Rolex nine. However, Sinclair was named vice president and Rolex the new secretary.
Speaking with this newspaper last evening, Harris who acted as treasurer of the GABBF under Tucker and Andrea Poonai said that she and her body will have their first meeting on Sunday.
“First on our agenda are the novices and intermediate championships because we have to get these championships out of the way. We were supposed to have elections since the end of last year and it was only yesterday (Tuesday) we held it so, everything is pushed back right now,” Harris said.
She added that with the Hugh Ross Classic set for May 2, “it would be hard for us to now make sure that our tournament doesn’t come too close to that because you know, basically everyone has the same set of sponsors and so on. So like I said, we have a lot of work to do where bodybuilding is concerned and getting it up back and running.”
