-court hears
Twenty-three-year-old Collis Felix of Lamaha Gardens yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer charges of unlawfully assaulting his girlfriend and breaking her spectacles in a confrontation with her.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges of unlawful assault and malicious damage to property when acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read them to him.
He denied that on February 15, he unlawfully wounded Alyinca Browne so as to cause her actual bodily harm and that he unlawfully and maliciously damaged her spectacles valued $35,000.
Felix was represented by attorney-at-law Peter Hugh who applied for bail for him on the grounds that Browne had sustained injuries as a result of a scramble between her and his client.
He stated that his client had his torn shirt to attest to the fact that they both assaulted each other.
However, Browne, who was also present in court, stated that on the day in question she was defending herself since Felix was punching her about her body.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that Felix bit Browne several times about her body during the altercation. He objected to Felix’s bail application on the grounds that advice will have to be sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions as it relates to Browne’s statements in the matter.
Hugh then stated that his client only bit Browne once.
The magistrate then placed Felix on bail in the sum of $30,000 for the damage to property charge while she ordered that he be remanded to prison with regard to the assault matter.
Felix will only be released if he is also placed on bail for the assault matter.
He is scheduled to make another court appearance on February 25.
