The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) and the Local Government Ministry are starting enhancement exercises in the city.
M&CC spokesperson Debra Lewis, in a release, said the works, to be executed at an estimated cost of $22 million, include the cleaning and desilting of drains and canals, the removal of encumbrances on parapets and reserves along with general road maintenance and repairs. The works will be done in time for the Mashramani and 20-20 cricket events.
The Engineers Department will also start demolishing ruinous structures in the city. This exercise would be conducted in areas such as Kingston, Wortmanville, Lodge, South Cummingsburg, Charlestown and Bourda.
The Department said it has sent notices to the owners of the cited buildings about the danger they pose to occupants, passers-by and neighbouring buildings.
