Two women were remanded to prison yesterday, after they were allegedly found with separate quantities of cannabis and cocaine in their possession for the purpose of trafficking at the Bartica Police Station.
Camille Pollard of Lot 15 Craig Street, Campbellville entered a not guilty plea to the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, while Georgina Abrams, of Three Mile, Potaro, Bartica, entered not guilty pleas to the charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and possession of narcotics. Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton remanded the pair when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Pollard denied that on February 17, at the Bartica Police Station she had 699 grammes of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking. Abrams, meanwhile, denied that on February 18, at the same station she had 26 grammes of cocaine in her possession for the purpose of trafficking and 41 grammes of cannabis.
Prosecutor Shellon Daniels requested that both women be remanded to prison and that their matters be transferred to the Bartica Magistrates’ Court for February 24.
The magistrate granted the prosecutor’s request.
Reports are that on February 17 the police were conducting a routine stop and search exercise at the Bartica Stelling, which led to some persons being taken into the police station for a proper search. While at the police station the cannabis was allegedly found in Pollard’s computer bag.
On February 18, Abrams was taken into the police station for a routine search and while there she was allegedly observed by police taking the cocaine and cannabis out of her boots and throwing them on the floor.
Both women were later charged.
