Kingston, Jamaica – Digicel would like to congratulate West Indies captain, Chris Gayle, and fast bowler, Jerome Taylor, for their ESPNCricinfo awards which were recently announced in India.
The Digicel-sponsored Gayle took the award for the best Twenty20 innings for his 88 from 50 deliveries against Australia at the Oval in London during the ICC World Twenty20 Tournament.
Taylor – also a Digicel-sponsored player – was awarded the best bowling performance in Test cricket in the past year by ESPNCricinfo’s judging panel of former cricketers, commentators and Cricinfo’s senior editors, for his 5 wickets for 11 runs from 9 overs, which led the way in blasting England out for 51 at Sabina Park during the Digicel Series 2009.
Digicel Group Marketing Director, Kieran Foley, commented: “On behalf of Digicel, I would like to extend my congratulations to both Chris and Jerome on this noteworthy achievement which once again puts West Indies cricket in the global spotlight and highlights the fact that our players are world class cricketers.”
“Both Chris and Jerome are long-standing members of the Digicel family and we wish them, and the entire Windies team, the very best of luck for the remaining two T20s against Australia and the Digicel Series against Zimbabwe and South Africa and all other cricket in which they will be playing this year.” Gayle is currently in Australia leading the Windies team, while Taylor is recovering from injury which ruled him out of the recent Test tour of Australia and the subsequent limited overs tour.
