Boxers yesterday inked their contracts in the boardroom of Abdool and Abdool Insurance Company for the first Friday Night Fights on February 26 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
The concept of Friday night fights was birthed between the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) and the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) to create a Pro/Am fight card.
NCN will carry live broadcast from 20:00 hours Friday night.
There will be four amateur fights with a 30-minute break before the first of four professional fights begins as stipulated by the rules governing a Pro/Am card set out by the International Amateur Boxing Association (IABA).
On Friday night’s card former national bantamweight champion Dexter Marques, who is looking to revive his career after losing his belt to world ranked Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore last year, will take on Orlan ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers in a bantamweight clash over four rounds. Both Marques and Rogers yesterday quipped that they will be doing their talking in the ring on fight night.
Journeyman Rogers will be looking to improve on his eight losses and three wins from 11 bouts. Marques, on the other hand has one blemish at the hands of Moore but got back to his winning ways when he beat Hewley Robinson last September to push his record to five and one.
Also on the professional card, heavyweights Shelly Gibson and Pauline London will clash over four rounds while Edmond De Clou will take on Kwesi Jones in a middleweight encounter.
Rudolph Fraser will duke it out with Troy Lewis in a catchweight bout over four frames.
Meanwhile, the amateur fights will be three rounds each with Renee Davis taking on Ansila Charles in the only female bout. Edwin Richards will square off against Danishwar Narine, Dexter Jordan will fight Imran Khan and the fourth matchup will see Bert Braithwaite going up against Damian Ross. The amateur bouts will all be in the flyweight division.
