Fifty-six more women have graduated from the Life Skills Education and skills training programme hosted by the National Training Programme for Youth Empowerment (NTPYE).
After four months of training 35 women graduated from the catering course and 21 in garment construction, a press release from the Government Information Agency said. A graduation ceremony organised by the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) and the Vocational Skills Training Institute was held on Friday at the Belle Vue Outreach Centre, West Bank Demerara.
CEO of BIT Alana Brassington said all the programmes carried out nationally were huge successes, especially at Belle Vue. She posited that government will provide assistance vouchers valued $65,000 to each graduate to ensure that they are equipped to start their businesses.
The money is to be used to buy equipment at stores including Courts, Singer’s, Payless Variety, Sylvie’s Variety Store and Guyana Stores Limited.
Brassington charged the graduates to demonstrate their commitment to national development either by creating jobs for themselves or by working with the private or public sectors.
