Two men who resided with Ishwar Mithu at his Peter’s Hall home up to a few weeks ago when they were evicted are being sought in connection with his murder.
Stabroek News understands that one of the men, a deportee resides in the West Demerara area while the other hails from Berbice. One of Mithu’s relatives was yesterday assisting the police to locate the deportee.
Police officials yesterday confirmed that they were looking for the two.
A relative explained to this newspaper that while living in the US, one of the suspects was Mithu’s tenant. However the man was deported about two years ago but the relative could not say for what.
By this time, Mithu had already returned to Guyana and was living alone in Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara.
The deportee and another man subsequently went to live with him and according to the reports reaching Stabroek News, when the 65-year-old hearing impaired man got information that they were involved in illegal activities, he told them to leave his home.
Police officials said yesterday that as investigations continue into the murder/robbery, ranks returned to the area with tracker dogs to aid in reconstructing the path the perpetrators used to get away with the household appliances that they stole from the man’s home after killing him. Investigators suspect that the perpetrators had a boat waiting for them at a koker located a short distance from Mithu’s home.
They entered through openings in the back fence and possibly left the same way. They removed louvre panes and cut the grillwork on a kitchen window to enter the house.
Around 3 pm on Wednesday, the remigrant was found by his son with his hands tied behind his back and his feet bound with pieces of cloth. He was found on his bed in his room located on the upper flat of the two- storey building. A pillow that was apparently used to smother him to death was nearby with blood on it. The bedroom was also ransacked.
A microwave, a washing machine, two gas bottles, a television set, a five disc stereo set and a DVD player were discovered missing.
A resident became suspicious when she noticed several window panes missing from the kitchen window and the cut grillwork. Mithu was not seen for the morning. The man’s relatives were subsequently informed and on entering the house made the gruesome discovery.
