Mokesh Ramsaroop was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of robbery under arms.
The allegation is that on February 22, at Mainstay, Essequibo Coast, he used a gun to rob Sanbhavatie Seecharan of a gold bangle valued $120,000, a gold chain valued $15,000, two gold rings together valued $20,000 and $2,000 cash.
Prosecutor Joel Ricknauth requested that Ramsaroop be remanded to prison and that the matter be transferred to the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
The magistrate ordered that Ramsaroop return to court on March 9, where the Administration of Justice Act (AJA) is to be applied to the charge, allowing him to plead to it.
According to reports the incident occurred at around 9pm when a farmer and his family were robbed by three armed bandits at their Mainstay, Essequibo Coast home.
Vashishtha Seecharan, the farmer’s son was shot in the shoulder while assisting his father who had also been assaulted. His wife, Sanbhvatie, was relieved of a quantity of cash, gold jewellery and a cell phone.
