When contacted Commander George Vyphuis could not say why the dogs were taken to the Lot 73 Peter’s Hall home around 6:30 pm but did indicate that nothing could have been done then so the animals were returned to the scene the following morning.
Ranks are using the dogs to reconstruct the path the perpetrators used to get away with the household appliances that they stole from the man’s home after killing him and again visited the scene yesterday. An autopsy yesterday revealed that Mithu died as a result of asphyxiation due to smothering.
Police have since detained two men in connection with the incident and this newspaper was able to confirm that one was evicted from Mithu’s home several weeks ago.
The dead man’s brother-in-law Anand Persaud told Stabroek News that police came to the home after they had swept, mopped and burnt items including the pillow that was apparently used to smother Mithu.
After conducting their investigations the ranks had indicated to the relatives that they could enter the home and it was at this point that the clean up started; first in the man’s bedroom where he was found and then the rest of the house.
According to Persaud when the animals came it was already dark and nothing could be done. “This is a break down in communication… This could hamper the investigation”, the man said adding that relatives are very upset over what has happened.
He said that ranks took pictures and fingerprints and should have secured the scene until the dogs came.
Around 3 pm on Wednesday, the hearing impaired remigrant was found by his son with his hands tied behind his back and his feet bound with pieces of cloth. He was found on his bed in his room located on the upper flat of the two-storey building. A pillow that was apparently used to smother him to death was nearby with blood on it. The bedroom was also ransacked.
A microwave, a washing machine, two gas bottles, a television set, a five disc stereo set and a DVD player were discovered missing.
A resident became suspicious when she noticed several window panes missing from the kitchen window and the cut grillwork. Mithu was not seen for the morning. The man’s relatives were subsequently informed and on entering the house made the gruesome discovery.
