The Golden Arrowhead was proudly hoisted at around 7 am at Parliament Buildings and other ceremonial functions performed as Guyana marked its 40th Republic anniversary.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said the ceremony started when the Guard of Honour performed a “March on” making way for the arrival of Prime Minister Samuel Hinds followed by President Bharrat Jagdeo. Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Commodore Gary Best and Commissioner of Police Henry Greene welcomed both men to the ceremony.
The president then performed the “Review of the Guard of Honour” after which the party moved off and prayers were read by representatives of the Hindu, Muslim and Christian faiths. The National Pledge was then recited and the National Anthem sung, then following tradition the Guard of Honour marched off.
