According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Minister of Education Shaik Baksh along with Permanent Secretary at the ministry Pulandar Kandhi signed the contracts at the Ministry of Finance’s boardroom with R Bassoo and Sons Construction Company.
Baksh said the additional Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) centres will allow the ministry to expand training in Guyana. He said the ministry hopes that the addition of the two centres will build competencies and expand opportunities for the nation.
The centres will be built with US$7.5M from the Caribbean Development Bank. Government will provide the remainder. One will be built at Park, Mahaicony, Region Five, on a plot of land donated by the Sankar Brothers. The second one will be built at Leonora, West Coast Demerara in Region Three.
GINA said the projects are expected to be completed in nine months. The finance ministry will be monitoring and evaluating the exercise.
