Ninth annual Castrol Inter-County

U15 one day tourney launched

The ninth annual Inter-County Castrol Under-15 limited-overs tournament will begin on March 9.

The tournament was launched yesterday in the boardroom of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) office on upper Regent Street.

The crème-de-la-crème of the country’s under-15 cricketers born on or after September 1, 1994 will also be competing for a spot on Guyana’s team for the Regional under-15 tournament from March 27 in Trinidad & Tobago.

At the launching yesterday Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GCB Terry Holder said that the young cricketers today are the greats of tomorrow.

Further, he noted that if there were no competitions for the nursery of the country’s cricketers then the dream of having great cricketers will not be possible. Castol donated $1.6 million for the tournament and according to Brand Manager Leonard Khan he is pleased to be associated with the GCB.

He said that the efforts of the Board must be commended and therefore it is Castrol’s corporate responsibility to support the development of the young cricketers. He said that hopefully this support will not aid in cricket development but in the development of the individuals so that may become positive role models.

He was also satisfied that matches will be spread to venues that do not often get cricket games. Matches will be played at the Anna Regina, Enmore, Uitvlugt, Enterprise and Demerara Cricket Club grounds for the round robin tournament.

Acting President of the GCB Faizul Bacchus expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Castrol and  said  he believes that the marriage between the two entities will not have a divorce.
