A Russian national died yesterday morning shortly after a tree branch fell on his head while he was a member of a party cutting a road in the Port Kaituma, North West District area.
Commander of E&F Division, David Ramnarine told Stabroek News that Victor is the only name given so far for the dead man. He confirmed that Victor was a Russian national who worked for a company called Diam Gold Incorporated.
According to Ramnarine, around 9 am, the man was among a group of persons clearing the way for a road when a branch from a falling tree struck him on the head.
The injured man was being transported out of the area for medical attention when he succumbed to his injuries.
A resident of Port Kaituma told this newspaper that the area where the incident occurred is located in an area called Butterfly Backdam.
The body was flown to the city several hours later by plane and is at the Lyken’s Funeral Home.
Meanwhile, the police are yet to locate the Brazilian who shot his fellow countryman in the face during an argument over money earlier this week.
Reports are that Leandro Torres De Lima, 24, died shortly after the 9 am incident on Wednesday in Butterfly Backdam.
The shooter, who is a known shop-owner and miner, fled the area and has not been seen since.
A team of police ranks went to the area to conduct investigations and have since left.
De Lima’s remains are also at the Lyken’s Funeral home.
