In a release, directors in Canada who organized the dinner and dance at the Elite Banquet Hall in Etobicoke, Ontario deemed the event a success.
The event which was attended by over 450 persons was also graced by Guyana’s Honorary Consul General to Canada Danny Doobay and prominent Canadian-based businessmen and professionals including Ken Singh of Atlas Cargo.
Doobay, in his address, complimented the AKTFF on its achievements and extended a congratulatory message to the Aditya Kids Trust Fund Foundation on behalf of Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony.
Doobay also lauded the “foundation’s role in supplementing the Government of Guyana’s effort in improving the quality of life of the Guyanese people.”
Singh also congratulated the foundation on its achievements and reaffirmed his support for the efforts.
In his feature address, President of the foundation, Archie Mohan stressed that it is committed to making a difference in the lives of needy persons including those requiring surgeries.
He noted that the foundation also supports academic and sport activities for youths especially from depressed communities.
The president also thanked all those who supported and contributed toward the success of the foundation.
According to the release, the monies raised will be allocated to alleviate the cost of several of the organization’s ongoing projects and also the commencement of new ones.
Meanwhile the foundation is running a free daycare/pre-school along with a library and resource centre at its location at Bath Settlement.
Several persons [mostly children] have benefitted from donations towards undergoing surgeries for heart and other medical conditions.
Yarrowkabra Creek Nursery and Mortice Primary
Earlier this month the foundation also donated a quantity of clothing and writing materials to the Yarrowkabra Creek Nursery School in Linden.
Almost 50 students benefitted from the donation which was made possible through the representation of a member of the organization who taught in the community. The headmistress of the school expressed gratitude for the items.
Meanwhile the foundation also assisted the Mortice Primary School at Mahaicony by replenishing its library with books and by providing sport wear to 36 students.
The AKTFF also sponsored a spelling bee competition which was hosted by Grade 6 teacher, Inderjeet Persaud. Students from grades one to six participated in the competition and those who emerged winners from each grade were awarded trophies.
Mohan who was in Guyana for a series of charitable activities addressed the large gathering of parents, teachers and friends of the school.
He also congratulated the winning students and encouraged them to read more.
Persaud thanked the foundation on behalf of the parents and teachers and said “the intervention was timely and worthy” and “it will further motivate the pupils to do better.”
In the meantime, the foundation also presented a local cricket team in the area with t-shirts.
