– court hears
Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that 25-year-old Otis Noble of East La Penitence be remanded to prison while she placed his brother, Junior Madray on $60,000 bail, when they appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with beating another man.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful wounding.
They both denied that on March 1, at Stabroek, Georgetown, they unlawfully wounded Lorenzo Sims.
Madray’s lawyer had applied for bail for him on the grounds that this is the first time that his client had been implicated in a criminal matter and he posed no risk of flight.
He also stated that if released his client would return to court for his trial when required to.
However, Sims, who was also present in court, stated that he was beaten because he had a relationship with Noble’s girlfriend.
He said that prior to this incident Noble had threatened to shoot him because of the connection he had with the girl.
He stated that he was walking along near the Demerara River Speed Boat Service when he was attacked by the defendants, who used a length of wood to deal him several blows about his body.
He said that he was beaten in his head and had sustained a wound to the left of his chest that required several stitches.
Sims said he ran to a nearby police outpost but the duo gave him another beating there.
The incident was reported and the duo was arrested and later charged.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that Sims currently has a matter in the court against him but he was injured in this incident.
The prosecutor then objected to the duo’s bail applications since, according to him, Sims had sustained a wound just below the area of his heart as a result of the incident.
The duo is expected to make another court appearance on March 6.
