It may seem that here in Bartica no one seems to care about visitors and persons here having their outings on the beach. That of course is our golden beach Regatta site, and there should be a ban on glass bottles there. Every Sunday boom boxes and picnickers flock to the beach to have fun. That area was filled with sand by me. It’s now the best piece of beach in Bartica. Only on Sunday, February 28, three persons got serious cuts on their feet swimming from the beach; they were treated at the Bartica hospital.
I am appealing to whoever this may concern, please pay attention to the beach site and pavilion. Only at Regatta time is some cleaning and clearing done, but someone should work on the site on a daily basis to clean it.
Next, as visitors approach Bartica by boat at low tide, from Triangle Abattoir to Derabo our beach is a sour site – no sand and old wood and garbage. This does not look good for the Gateway to the Interior and a tourism destination. Also at the mining village of Itaballi, Mazaruni River, a few miles off Bartica, people are building ships and houses on the government reserve and roadways. They were warned by the Community Development Council and the police not to do so, but they just ignored them, and continued to build. The Minister of Housing, Lands and Surveys and CDC were informed. We are now awaiting action from these agencies. Itaballi is a landing that takes you to Cuyuni, Puruni and Kurupung by road. This place is getting lawless and out of hand; a police outpost is needed at Itaballi.
