National Milling Company (NAMILCO) edged out Republic Bank Ltd. (RBL) to emerge winners of the Banks DIH Inaugural “One Tip Two Tip” Softball Cricket tournament staged last Sunday at Thirst Park ground.
The one-day novelty competition provided much fun and excitement with six companies battling for top honours.
In the final NAMILCO scored 31-6 with Pervesh Bhola top scoring with 15.
In reply, Republic Bank were restricted to 28-1 in their turn at the crease. Shane Joseph was the top scorer with 24 runs in a losing cause.
In the semi-finals, NAMILCO squeezed past Citizens Bank after their match was forced into an extra over to determine the winner.
Both teams scored 35 runs with Shawn Massiah hitting 29 for Citizens Bank while Bhola and Bernard Daw had 10 runs each for NAMILCO.
NAMILCO scored nine runs in their extra over while the bankers could only muster eight.
Republic Bank got the better of Bureau of Statistics in the other semi after overhauling BOS’ score of 22 for three wickets. Coretta Moore led the way for Republic Bank with 13 runs.
In the preliminary competition, Parliament Office beat Republic Bank. Parliament Office scored 31 in reply to Republic’s 29. Avinash Gariba scored 23 for Parliament Office while Damian Denny hit 19 for the bankers.
NAMILCO defeated Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) after scoring 32 for 3 and then restricting GGMC to 28 for three in the allotted four overs.
Bernard Daw was the leading scorer for the winners with 26 runs.
Citizens Bank got the better of Bureau of Statistics in their encounter. Citizens Bank scored 35 – 3 with Massiah scoring 19. Bureau of Statistics could only muster 30-1 in reply with Leyland Bacchus scoring 20.
