Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud said the mammoth crowd that participated in the IAC’s Rang Barse held at the Bath Settlement Community Centre Ground on Monday is testament to the fact that Holi has truly become a national festival.
Region Five Chairman Harrinarine Baldeo was among the 10,000 persons who participated in the cultural presentation held at the West Coast Berbice venue, a press release from the Indian Arrival Committee (IAC) said. The IAC said the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) Company provided 500 jars of blue powder and about 200 plastic “pichkaries” (hand-held devices used to squirt liquid). A variety of sweet meats and the traditional seven-curry were also on sale. Games stalls also provided additional entertainment.
The IAC extended gratitude to sponsors GT&T, DDL and Banks DIH and to all who helped to make the celebration a success. The IAC also said it will be hosting its eight series of melas to commemorate the arrival of Indians to Guyana on April 25 at the National Park, on May 2 at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground, on May 5 and at the Port Mourant Community Centre Ground.
