President Bharrat Jagdeo recently met Belgium Ambassador to Guyana Leopold Carrewyn at a brief ceremony held at State House.
Government had earlier accepted the Letters of Credence from Ambassador Leopold Carrewyn and High Commissioner of Botswana to Guyana Charles Thembani Ntwaagae, Government Information agency (GINA) press release said.
Carrewyn and Ntwaagae had been sworn in by Prime Minister Samuel Hinds who had been performing the functions of president in March 2009.
In an invited comment Carrewyn noted the President’s interest in reinforcing Guyana’s relations with Belgium which has over the years been low profile. He also mentioned that his country was interested in the trade opportunities in the local mining sector.
