The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is to make changes to its constitution president Colin Klass said yesterday.
The GFF president was briefing the media on what transpired at the XXXIII Ordinary Congress of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) last month in Trinidad and Tobago.
The CFU congress was held February 27 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and, according to Klass, further development in Guyana’s football can be expected.
Klass said that there was a revision of the constitution of CFU and, as a result the GFF will also be making some changes to its constitution.
The GFF has changed its constitution in the past wherby elections are now held every four years insead of annually as was the case. It also introduced staggered elections whereby all the posts are not contested at one time.
Klass yesterday revealed that a Futsal course will be held in late April.
A marketing specialist from FIFA is expected to visit Guyana to share ideas on how to sell the current national league to corporate Guyana.
Coaches Wayne Dover and Linden France have been selected to attend the elite coaching programmes since they already have their `B’ licences.
The long standing president also indicated that FIFA will be assisting with sponsorship of these programmes.
He added that there are also 16 other courses being run by the GFF.
On the other hand, with the specialist’s visit he will be lending his knowledge to the GFF with the aim of setting up a professional league for both male and female footballers.
Klass pointed out that the ladies’ version will be put on hold since the level of ladies football will have to be lifted.
He also noted that women’s football was now fighting for the recognition in Guyana and said the implementation of a pro league will take a little longer.
Klass told media operatives that from April 11-14 there will be a team visiting Guyana to conduct a site and facilities inspection of the venues where super league games are played.
He reported that the places where games are played are in conformity with the specifications handed by CONCACAF.
Klass said that the local body handed over a cheque of US $2000 and the Guyana Referee Council’s (GRC) US$550 to the president of the Haitian Football Federation Yves Jean Bart.
There is an undertaking to have the matches of the 2010 FIFA World Cup be shown in Haiti free of charge.
