(BBC) Australia vice-captain Michael Clarke is returning home from the current tour of New Zealand for personal reasons.
Cricket Australia have confirmed the 28-year-old batsman will leave the side before today’s third one-day international in Hamilton.
“Michael is attending to personal, non-cricket matters and we ask that his privacy be respected,” said general manager of cricket Michael Brown.
It is not yet known how long Clarke will be away from the team.
His departure follows recent reports in the Australian media concerning Clarke’s fiancee Lara Bingle, who is reportedly suing a former boyfriend after a photo of her was published in a magazine.
Australia’s selectors will decide today whether a replacement for Clarke will be needed.
They will also announce the squad for three Tests which follow the one-day series, which is currently tied at 1-1.
