The curtains came down on the Ming’s Products and Services Veterans’ Lawn Tennis Tournament under floodlights this past week at the Harry and Ann Panday Tennis Court in Bel Air Park.
At the ceremony, Managing Director of Ming’s Product and Services Limited, Stanley Ming, congratulated the winners of the various categories for their outstanding performances during the three-week Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) organized competition.
GLTA President, Christopher Ram, was unreserved in his praise of the Pandays who were presented with a special plaque in appreciation of their generosity.
He also commended the more senior players as good examples of healthy lifestyles and implored them to make their experience and tennis expertise available to the association and the younger players whom he identified as the future of the game in Guyana.
The night wrapped up with the finals of the Men’s Over-35 match which lasted for over two hours and Andre Lopes eventually prevailed over Don Singh.
The tournament began on February 19 at the Everest Cricket Club which has re-launched its tennis facilities, with subsequent matches being played at the Pegasus and at the Panday’s Courts.
In other results, the Men’s 55 and over doubles was won by Maxie Fox and Steve Surujbally while Bobby Khan and Roy Rampersaud were runners-up.

Men’s 45 and over doubles: 1st – Godfrey Lowden and O. Persaud, 2nd – V. DaSilva and B. Khan
Men’s 35 and over doubles: 1st – D Singh and S Datadin, 2nd – G. Lowden and M. Niamatali
Men’s 45 and over singles: 1st – Harry Panday, 2nd – V. Da Silva
Ladies 30 and over singles: 1st – E. Doobay, 2nd – Otilia St Charles
