Additionally, the AAG and the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) will be sending a 12-man team to the South American under-23 championships scheduled for Colombia from March 14-30. Sprinter Chavez Ageday of the Bygeval Secondary School has been selected on both teams for the major championships.
Ageday was also paired with Dennis Horatio for athletics and Coach Raymond Daw will accompany the two athletes when they depart on March 17 for the track events that start on March 20 and end on March 23. Also for the under-23 games, Guyana will be represented in the disciplines of Swimming, Taekwondo and Squash, which are open events.
Olympian Niall Roberts and Fabian Binnz will compete in the swimming and they are scheduled to leave on March 24 and return on April 1 with Coach Sean Baksh. WISPA’s number 60 ranked and Guyanese squash ace Nicolette Fernandes, who is currently in England, will team up with Ashley Khalil from March 17-26.
For taekwondo overseas based Adrian Spelling and Farhaad Bacchus have been nominated and they will be under the watch of Bernard Spelling from March 25-April 1.
Meanwhile, in the CARIFTA team last year’s lone gold medalist in the 800m Jevina Straker has been named after she was ruled out of competition at the Inter Guiana Games because she is preparing for examinations. She, along with sprinter Tiffany Carto, is expected to compete in the under-17 category.
Rising youth sprinter Kurt Fraser and 800m runner Kevin Bailey has been placed on a provisional list until it is clear whether the AAG can get a group discount on the airfare for eight.
Ageday, long and triple jumper Winston Caesar, Parish Cadogan and 1500m runner Jenella Jonas have also made the cut.
