Some cut fruits not fit for eating -City Council warns

In a press release, the M&CC said the meat and Food Hygiene Section of the Public Health Department recently carried out an inspection of some of the cut fruit in Styrofoam trays. “It was discovered that, in some cases, the fruits were not prepared under the approved hygienic standard,” the Council noted, while adding   that the fruits are not stored or sold at the correct temperature, which could alter its nutritional value.

The Council advised that the fruit should be prepared on approved premises, under strict hygienic conditions. Additionally, the fruit should be stored and sold at 4oC and vendors must sell in designated areas.

Meanwhile, the Council also said that it has received reports that despite an agreement, some coconut vendors are still bottling coconut water for sale. The Public Health Department could not vouch for the sterilisation process the vendors are using and as a result it advises them to desist from the practice.
