The public is invited to a screening of Mirch Masala at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), New Haven, Bel Air this afternoon.
This film is hosted by the ICC Film Club in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2010, which was observed on Monday last.
Mirch Masala is directed by Ketan Mehta and tells the story of one woman’s fight against a tyrannical landlord and the various reactions of men and women in her community as she refuses to submit to being raped by him.
The film features critically acclaimed performances from Smita Patil, Nasserudin Shah and Om Puri.
The film has been described by South Asian Women’s Network film critic Maya Yajnik as “an unusually thoughtful and visually stunning movie about women’s empowerment “.
