Guyana’s next top female model is going to be plus size after three years of the competition because the organizers are only looking for models this year that fit into that category.
Designer Sonia Noel created Guyana Model Search and she is of the opinion that the time has come for plus size models to be recognized in the competition. The auditions will kick off soon and plus size models up to size 14 are eligible.
Sonia told The Scene that the plus size industry is gaining momentum and she said that sexy and sophisticated women are representing on the international stage for women who are not between sizes 0 and 3. “Guyana has beautiful plus size women who know how to walk a catwalk and we are hoping to bring that to the public”.
Sonia stressed that one of the objectives of model search is to highlight that fashion is not about empowering one category of women and projecting one particular body type either. She said model search has decided to take a different approach this year, adding that she is excited about the competition this year.
Auditions will be on March 20 and 21 at Hotel Tower and both male and female models are being asked to show up. The persons interested in the Designer Portfolio and Stylist competition are also asked to show up. Sonia said the models are asked to audition between 3 and 5 pm and the designers and stylist would be screened between 2 and 3 pm.
Jermaine Victor and Yolanda Kerr were named Guyana’s top male and female models last year.
