Guyanese batsman Steven Jacobs struck a masterful 161 on the opening day of the fifth round of matches in the Premiership Division in Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday.
Playing down South at Pluck Road Recreation Ground in Fyzabad, home team Rahamut’s Evergreen Sports, gave one of their better batting performances this season.
Led by a tremendous 161 from the left-handed Jacobs, Evergreen tallied 279 against arch-rivals and defending champions PowerGen Sports.
Jacobs smashed eight fours and six sixes off 201 balls in 233 minutes against the ‘Electricity Boys’ bowling attack.
Only T&T all-rounder Samuel Badree was able to torment the Evergreen’s batsmen with figures of six for 96. Fellow Guyanese Shemroy Barrington scored 30 in Evergreen’s effort.
Elsewhere, Anthony D’Andrade playing for the University of Trinidad and Tobago, scored 66 to lead his team to 232 against Alescon Comets. Another Guyanese, Kastri Singh, grabbed 2/34 off 14 overs for Comets.
At Gilbert Park, Christopher Barnwell scored a rapid 88 to propel W-Connection to 321 all out against Homchand Pooran’s Clarke Road with Pooran picking up 1/31.
He then returned with the bat to score an unbeaten 43 as Clarke Road responded with 132 for three.
And in North Trinidad, Troy Cornelius topped off a great day for Guyanese players striking 77 runs to lead SIS Central Sports to 375 all out against Merryboys cricket club.
