The Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) yesterday fired its Materials Manager after he was found guilty of breaching the corporation’s procurement procedures in the purchasing electrodes.
In a letter to Aasrodeen Shaw, and which was seen by this newspaper, the corporation told the man that he was dismissed summarily and that he among other things had one month to vacate the staff house. Shaw was also told to immediately hand over the corporation’s records, keys, car, equipment or tools that were issued to him.
According to the letter, at a hearing chaired by head of the corporation’s board, Dr Nanda Gopaul, yesterday, Shaw was asked to respond to three charges. According to the letter, the first was the insufficient manner in which tender documents for the purchase of electrodes were presented.
The second was Shaw’s failure to present the evaluation of the said tender documents to the Head Office Tender Committee, and thereafter the Central Tender Committee, although he was aware of these documents since January 4.
And the third charge was that he breached the corporation’s procurement procedure and guidelines by continuing to purchase electrodes in small quantities when there was a tender for a bulk order waiting to be approved by the Head Officer Tender/Central Tender Committee. This amounted to the splitting of the contracts in the purchase of the item.
The letter informed that after careful examination of all the facts concerning the matter and on the evidence addressed during the inquiry it found Shaw guilty of all the charges.
