A husband and wife appeared yesterday before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged with unlawfully assaulting each other and they each pleaded not guilty.

Duane Tobin, 31, of Third Street Alberttown, was charged with unlawfully assaulting his wife Odessa Tobin. Meanwhile, Odessa Tobin, 26, a nurse, of the same address, was charged with unlawfully and maliciously assaulting Duane Tobin.

Odessa told the court said that on March 13, during a misunderstanding over a cell phone, Duane, a network administrator, choked her and cuffed her about her head. She retaliated and a scuffle ensued where Duane was injured by a knife.

The defendants were released on self-bail with the matter being returnable for April 9.
