Dear Editor,
I would like to refer to the interview I did with Reporter Ms. Iana Seales, at the offices of the Embassy, on Thursday, March 11, 2010, and which was published in your prestigious newspaper on Sunday 14th of March.
I wish to extend my gratitude to you, for giving me the opportunity to share information and comments on the important Summit of Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Mexico from the 21 to the 23 of February, 2010, including the First Mexico-CARICOM Summit.
In the second paragraph, the journalist mentioned the following: “It is the most recent of the blocs in the Latin America and the Caribbean region and was set up with the provision that the United States and Canada should be excluded”
In this regard, I wish to emphasize that what I said in the interview is that the purpose of the Unity Summit is to create a space for Latin American and Caribbean people without intentionally wishing to exclude anyone.
As I have mentioned during the interview, The United States and Canada are two very important partners for the Region. Most of Latin America and the Caribbean have a strong and broad bilateral agenda with both countries and will continue this way.
Additionally, we participate together, with the United States and Canada, in the Organization of American States (OAS), and we will also continue to do that.
Yours faithfully,
Fernando Sandoval
Ambassador of Mexico
