PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – West Indies batting legend Brian Lara could be one of the star attractions in next year’s Indian Premier League, international cricket’s premier Twenty20 tournament.

IPL boss Lalit Modi hinted at this development during a recent television interview in India where the former West Indies captain has made several appearances in the buildup to the third edition of the multi-million dollar tournament.

“Brian Lara was the first guy we approached during first IPL season and unfortunately he couldn’t join us and we are wishing him to get ready and be a part of IPL fourth edition,” Modi said.

Lara, who quit international cricket three years ago, said he was very excited about the tournament and said he would consider a return to action.

“I have to be fit and work hard to join the IPL but I will definitely think about it,” Lara said. Since arriving in India, the batting icon has been busy attending various IPL-related events. He was spotted at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday when Kolkata Knight Riders played Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Reports indicate he met Modi there and discussed his participation in the next season of the league.

Lara participated in the inaugural Indian Cricket League, a move that had previously debarred him from signing up with the IPL.

With the ICL now defunct, the batting genius is free to play in the IPL if he chooses.
