A total of 31 police cadet officers were certified yesterday and five of them received monetary awards for outstanding performance in the Standard Officers Courses (SOC) 41 and 42 administered by the Guyana Defence Force.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene presented the monetary awards to the five, while they received their certificates of commendation along with 26 other cadets in the Conference Room at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.
Greene said the 31 cadets did exceptionally well and he commended them.
The commissioner pointed out that the 31 cadets were strategically chosen to strengthen the middle management of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
After his brief remarks, Greene presented best student of the SOC 42, John Baker, with a plaque of high commendation along with $250,000 and the Brazilian and Venezuelan Armed Forces prizes with the Sword of Honour prize.
Himnauth Sawh and Ronjay Prince also of the SOC 42 each received $50,000 for being the best military knowledge student and best shot respectively. Sixteen cadets were certified in the SOC 42.
Meanwhile, 15 cadets were certified from the SOC 41 with cadets Jewel Hayles and Otis Garraway each receiving $50,000 for being the best shot and military knowledge students respectively. All cadets received a certificate of commendation from the commissioner along with a pen set.
According to Greene, this is the third batch of cadets to complete the course, which is part of a development programme aimed at strengthening the police force.
