The president and executive members of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) expressed their heartfelt congratulations to the management and members of the Berbice Under-15 team that recently won the National Inter-County Under-15 Championship.
This victory is special to the cricketing public in the ancient county and is the result of massive investments in our youths, hard work, commitment and discipline, the BCB declared in a press release.
Special mention must be made of Manager Zaheer Moakan and Coach Julian Moore who were making their debut at this level in the positions and who made sure that the BCB’s policy of discipline, commitment and team unity was maintained throughout the tournament.
According the press release, “the performances also were special to the board as it shows that our policies of investing in young and vibrant persons were the right way to go as we seek to charter the future.”
Captain Shawn Perreira and his Vice-captain Gudakesh Motie Kanhai also deserve special praise from the BCB for their astute leadership of the team on and off the field, the release noted.
The Board assured all members of the team that it would continue to work hard to make sure that they develop in the correct path, both at the cricketing and personal levels. The Board said also the team would be given every opportunity to play cricket at all levels as competitions would be played in 2010 as never before.
The release further stated that “We would also like to share this victory with all clubs and officials in Berbice who worked hard every day to make sure that our cricketers were properly prepared to play at the highest level. The Berbice Cricket Board would like to encourage all of them to continue the good work and to strive each day for higher standards.”
Finally, the BCB saluted the contribution of the National Communications Network (NCN) and Tenelec Inc. whose sponsorships played a major part in this success and assisted the Board to select the best possible team for the tournament.
There can be no doubt that Berbice cricket is on the rise and “we are confident that in 2010 we would make a clean sweep of all inter-county tournaments,” the release concluded.
